A pilot named Ted Herbert goes for a spin over midtown Manhattan in February 1937. He is operating a new type of sport plane dubbed a "flivver" in The New York Times, which houses a V-8 automobile engine. This latest invention would reportedly solve New York's traffic problems since the engine "could be taken from a Ford and installed in the plane when the owner decides to quit the road and take to the air."
