Beach-goers converge on Coney Island, the famed amusement area in Brooklyn. In the 1940s and 1950s, it was not unusual for more thanÊone million people to hit the beach at Coney Island on a hot summer day. After the sun and surf, many would then visit the Parachute Jump and Steeplechase Park, which stand in the background.
